The Power Of Why

Ask why...

I just had lunch with a wonderful group of trainers and coaches where we were to have a conversation with each other about some of our greatest achievements.

I brought to this conversation a commitment to empower and inspire everyone I was in contact with. Without knowing how.

What occurred to me during this conversation is how much I like to talk. So I gave that up in the moment and caused myself to be completely curious about the other person and I couldn't help but ask her more and more questions about what she did for work. I noticed that she was passionate about her work and then I asked the most powerful question...

Why?

As in.. why did you choose to go that route? Why did you choose that vocation? What brought you do that work?

The floodgates were opened.

I loved it.

At the end of a very long conversation I had fallen in love with this lady Angela. I got up from my side of the table and just had to give her a hug. She laughed and we connected.

There is nothing more powerful than asking someone why. Larry King does this all the time when he interviews people. Watch him and you'll see! That's why Larry is so successful in his interviews because he has the other person answer why. Why did you do that? Or Why do you think that? Great question why.

The next time you're with a client and you really want to create a powerful connection or impact them -just ask them why.
