Personal Responsibility In The Easter Story

"Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." -Jesus Christ

Today is Good Friday. The day in my Christian tradition where we remember how Jesus was crucified on the cross. He was given capital punishment for crimes he didn't commit. He was innocent. Yet so much a threat to the world system that they had to get rid of him.

They (the Jews at that time -representing ALL of humanity -not just the Jewish community) made up false charges against him and handed him over to the Romans for death.

Think about it. All of these false charges and people projecting all of their anger on him. They thought they hated him and he became the focus of all of their hate, fear, anger, and frustration. So how do we know what Jesus was thinking? By what he said...

He said, "I forgive all of them because they don't even know what they are doing." (George Watson paraphrase). Wow. Could you or I do that? Can we take complete responsibility for all of humanity? Jesus did. I think that is amazing and powerful.

Whether or not you believe the story or think it's true is secondary to the principle here. The principle is called Personal Responsibility. It is a point of view that we come from and not try to get to. If you want to have real power in your life then begin with the idea that you are cause of everything.

Is it true that you are the cause of everything? No. I wouldn't say that its true. I would however say that if you can "try on" that perspective and look from there into your current situation you will begin to see some amazing actions that wouldn't have otherwise have occurred to you.

I love the story of Jesus and how he laid down his life because of love for humanity. How he gave up his own life to serve others. He inspires me more than anyone else from history.

Check it out...
