Do The Opposite

Whatever your competition is doing -do the opposite!

That is a great way to start to innovate. Consider the idea that whatever everyone else is doing in the market is your cue for inventing a way to do it the opposite.

If you begin FROM a position that you can do the opposite then you will have a better chance at creating something that will work for you!

Sam Walton of Walmart used to use this principle so I think it has some merit! He used to say that when you do this you will get to hear all the nay-sayers telling you how you can't.

I remember hearing about my colleague and friend Sam Beckford tell a story of how a land owner once wouldn't sell him a building because he learnt that Sam owned a dance and music school. He told Sam that that kind of business can't make money. A few years later Sam purchased the bigger building across the street and made sure this land owner knew it. Oh and by the way he made a few million last year from his dance and music school!

True entrepreneurs LOVE to be challenged and take risks. It motivates and challenges them!

Doing the opposite won't always work but you'll never know until you take the risk!
