The Emotional Business Person

Business is a logical process run by emotional beings.

Interesting isn't it?

When we attempt to do business from emotion it usually backfires.

When a competitor moves into your neighbourhood most owners respond to this with concern, fear, or anger. This is because they (emotionally) think that they are going to lose business.

What usually happens is that competitor starts to advertise and because you're right across the street customers check you out as well. So this ends up increasing traffic to your location. If your service is better than they will buy from you. So often times business increases not decreases in a competitive situation.

Having a good competitor also forces you to get better at telling your story about your goods or services. You get more focused and clear about your "why" and the needs of your customers.

Sometimes having a competitor is one of the best things that could happen to you!

When we get emotional it helps to talk to someone about it. Shift your emotional state into one of calmness and quietness. That really helps!
