Create Who You ARE

Who are you?

What a great question. I am who I choose to be at any given moment. I'm not saying that I compromise my values or morals. I'm saying that how you and I show up in any given circumstance can be created.

Just like an actor can show up in his play, movie, whatever as a different character we as human beings have this capacity to "BE" anything we want.

Whenever my friend Steve Chandler tells his coach Steve Hardison that he cannot do something in his business because "that's just now who I am" he says. Hardison tells him to BE somebody else when you're doing that then!

So a more useful question might be "Who do I need to be right now to get this done?" or "Who do I need to be right now to get the result I say I want?"

  1. Many people will read this and think you're saying we should all just pretend to be people we're not whenever it suits us. I think you're getting at something deeper, however. If I'm committed to having a great relationship with my wife and I'm a workaholic, driven to succeed at work, I may need to give up some of those work hours, or at the very least learn how to be really listen and be fully present when I'm at home. This is about becoming more real, not making up a fake me.

  2. I love what you said Ted: "This is about becoming more real, not making up a fake me." That is so spot on to what I was writing. Thank you for getting my world!
