How To Shift Your Personal Context For Action

Human beings are complex creatures but we are also simple at the same time. There's not much different from us and our ancestors. We all still are motivated by pretty much the same things. But how do we shift who we're being? What is it that we can do to alter how the world occurs for us? There are several ways and what give us access to the ways are 3 distinct areas that I call "The Human Being Gears" -like gears in a machine. By working with only one "GEAR" you can shift the other two and also how the world occurs for you.

Why would you want to alter the way the world occurs for you? So you can have access to new actions that would not come to you had you kept on inside of the current context you are in. Context is the deciding factor in all of this.

The 3 Gears are: Language, Emotions (Mood), and Physiology (the body and somatic learning).

Language is by far the easiest way to alter how the world occurs to you. By using future-based language (declarations, promises, and offers) you can start to view the world completely different. For example, when I was working for Dale Carnegie and was struggling to be a Business Coach I had coaching and changed my personal declaration from "I'm working to be a Business Coach" to "I am a Business Coach." Once this declaration was made my whole world altered and I had access to new actions that weren't previously available to me.

A declaration is a place to COME FROM not a place to GET TO -like a pie in the sky dream or something. It is a way of being that alters your future and your being.

When you come from "I'm studying to be a Physicist" then you are stuck in a cycle of learning ABOUT Physics. Compare this with an inner declaration like "I AM a Physicist" and that is a more powerful place to come from. Learning will always be a part of your life but now you are a Physicist who is becoming an even better Physicist instead of holding yourself back. Yes the world may not yet recognize you as a Physicist but eventually they will. They won't be able to ignore you as you keep showing up as a Physicist every day. Sooner or later you'll start to take on other Physicists and give them a run for their money!

Emotions are also a powerful gear to play with. For example, I used to really hate my housework/chores and that was because every time I went to do them I FELT frustrated. The emotion of frustration is a predisposition for confusion, inaction, anger, and being stopped. You cannot possibly operate inside of the creative mind with this emotion. So to get my emotions in alignment with what I wanted I took my iPod and put on AC/DC's "Back In Black" album. Nothing like "You Shook Me All Night Long" to get the blood pumping and the emotions shifted. I created fun and action. You just can't sit still and listen to "You Shook Me All Night Long" and not want to move your body!

As for the body I get up in the morning and have only one goal in mind "GET TO THE GYM." Once I'm there I get on the Cross trainer and about 5mins in I have shifted my context from "I want to sleep longer" to "I want to kick this machines butt!" Throw some more music in there and the old context doesn't stand a chance.

The cool thing about all three of these gears is that by altering one you inadvertently alter the other two automatically. It's very cool.
