It's All Meaningless!

“Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!”
Ecclesiastes 1:2 (New Living Translation)

This text was written about 300 years before Christ was born. Of course the actual "translation" was only completed last century but if you investigate the original language (Hebrew) you find that this English translation is very accurate.

I love what Landmark Education says about this in their Landmark Forum: "Life is empty and meaningless and it doesn't mean anything that it's empty and meaningless."

This is one of the most difficult ideas to grasp because we are SO hard-wired to look at life like it is full of meaning and rich and plentiful at that! But meaning is esoteric. Life is an inanimate object -so to speak. Life is like an empty glass. The glass is just a container. It becomes useful only when you put something in it. By itself it is just empty and meaningless. But fill it with water and it could save your life in a desert!

Once you grasp that life is "empty and meaningless" you realize that what is actually IN your life and the meaning you gave it was all made up by (mostly) YOU!

If you created what's in the cup -then you can create something else to fill that cup!

It's the ultimate view of responsibility. I am responsible for EVERYTHING in my life.

This isn't truth -it's a very powerful idea that leaves the individual empowered beyond belief!

Whatever comes your way in this life (circumstances) you have a choice about what it means -you can take on the meaning that others out there (in the outer world) agree on -about what it means or you can create your own meaning about it.

This is how our understanding of going from a flat world to a round world was first created!

YOU give meaning TO the world -it's not that the world gives meaning to you!
