The Significance Of Emotion

Feelings are predispositions for action. That means that when you have a certain feeling it has a great deal to do with the type of actions you will be taking. Actions come FROM feelings and the also lead TO feelings. Feelings are great but not the best barometer for action!

So given that this is the case it can be very useful to know what kind of emotions produce what actions. Then we can not only take responsibility for our actions but plan and create the necessary emotional state to produce the kind of actions we really want!

First of all, the emotion anger will cause you to punish. When you are angry you will see how you can satisfy this emotion by punishing people.

The emotion frustration will cause you to access the fight or flight mechanism that is at the heart of the reptilian brain.

The emotion sadness will cause you to withdraw or isolate yourself.

The emotion regret will cause you to blame others.

One of the most powerful emotions is gratitude. The predisposition of gratitude is to cause yourself to be a gift for others!

Imagine going through life as a gift for others! Wow!

It is therefore, very useful for us to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Start by thinking about things in your life that you are grateful for. Constantly, continuously, and never ending!

Try it now! Make a short list of about 20 things you are grateful for! Then keep going and practice it!
